Guru is one of the best selling brands of basmati rice in the UK today and has a reputation for it's consistent high quality, which guarantees perfect cooked results every time and represents excellent value for money.

Guru Basmati is an aromatic rice delicately flavoured to compliment Indian cuisine. Westmill Foods select only the finest paddy which is aged for at least one year in India before shipment to the UK for cleaning and milling at the company's mill in North Yorkshire.

Basmati rice is grown in the Punjab region of both India and Pakistan and it is the soil and climate conditions which help give Basmati it's unique flavour and texture. The kernels are long and thin and elongate to two or three times their length when cooked.

For over 400 years Gurus have been passing on their faith and wisdom from one village to another, and only the best food was placed before the Guru. In the Himalayas this was always the finest basmati rice, long grained and aromatic. In time, it became known as Guru rice. Today's Guru rice faithfully follows that honoured tradition.
